How to Donate Used Books
Donations may be made in the Friends Used Book Drop located near the drive-up window on the west side of the Main Library. The drop will not be available on library holidays when the library is closed or during the week between Christmas and the New Year. See the Library holiday schedule.
  • For large donations that will not fit in the bin, please ring the Delivery doorbell.
  • For very large donations, please arrange for a volunteer to meet you at the delivery door by calling 248 232-2234.
  • Single books may be left at the desk in the Friendshop.
  • Please refrain from donating at Westacres branch where there are no facilities for storage.
Donation receipts are available at the drive-up window. Just report the number of books donated.

We especially need
  • Books published within the last five years, both fiction and non-fiction
  • Children’s books
  • DVDs, CDs, Books on CD
  • Attractive cookbooks, travel, nature, and coffee-table books
We don’t need
  • Books that have been improperly stored and are smelly, damp, dirty, torn, or written in.
  • Computer, health, or self-help books more than 5 years old
  • Magazines, newspapers, catalogs, or academic journals
  • Tapes, VHS, Audio cassettes
  • Textbooks, medical or law books, academic monographs

Friendshop Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 10am - 8pm
Friday & Saturday: 10am - 4pm
