Volunteering

Looking for a way to contribute to the community or need service hours for school? Just love hanging around the library? Then we have a job for YOU! Consider donating some of your time to the library by becoming a volunteer.

Possible volunteer assignments may include:

  • Adopt a Shelf: shelf reading and making sure library items are in the correct order
  • Program Prep: prepare crafts, assemble kits, etc.
  • Program Helper: assist librarians with special adult and teen programs, including setup and cleanup
  • Book Sorting: sorting and moving book donations

Disclaimer: Our volunteers do not work storytime events with our patrons.

Please fill out the form below to start the application process. Review of applications can take up to a week. Not every applicant is accepted. Priority is given to students (living in or attending school in West Bloomfield) fulfilling community service requirements for school, NHS, JNHS, etc. Beginning the 2025-2026 school year, ALL minors (any person 18 years of age or younger) must obtain a work permit, written agreement, or contract entered into between the employer, the governing school district, public school academy, or non-public school before volunteering begins.

There is occasionally a need for more long-term volunteers. All volunteers 18 and older are subject to a background check. The library will run a federal criminal and sex offender registry background check before volunteering begins. Currently, there is no need for long-term volunteers.
