Friends of the Library

The Friends of the West Bloomfield Township Public Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the library make information and knowledge accessible to the communities it serves. Funds are generated by memberships, book and Friendshop sales, and gifts.

The Friends of the West Bloomfield Township Public Library was established in 1956. Since the opening of the new Main Library building in 2000, the Friends have donated more than $750,000 to the library. Friends’ contributions have included:

• Funding collection enhancements, such as the acquisition of additional eBooks during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Purchasing building features, such as the Reading Tree, Storytime Terrace, and many of the library’s much-loved bronze sculptures
• Supporting library events, services, and initiatives like the annual Summer Reading Program
• Organizing regular programs like BOOKTalks, Talkin’ Broadway, and What’s Cooking

Annual Friends Luncheon
Chair: Robin Kaufman
A delicious luncheon for Friends members combined with a summary of accomplishments of the previous year and election of officers for the coming year.

BOOKTalk
Chair: Diane Henderson
Book discussions led by local experts. Our longest running program!

Talkin’ Broadway
Chair: Robin Kaufman
Enjoy excerpts of popular plays or musicals performed by local actors and singers as well as a discussion with visiting Broadway veterans.

What’s Cooking
Chair: Johnnie Roquemore
Local chefs and other food and beverage experts give demonstrations with generous samples

Friends Board

Board Meetings
The Friends of the Library Board meets the third Monday of every month at 7 PM. Meetings are held at the Main Library – 4600 Walnut Lake Road.
