The Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that challenge stereotypes, prejudices, and stigma through dialogue. In a Human Library, real people are on loan to readers. Difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered.
West Bloomfield is hosting a Human Library event on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 12-4 PM at the Main Library. We’re seeking volunteers to serve as Human Books by sharing their stories with members of the local community in an effort to promote tolerance, celebrate differences, and encourage understanding between people who come from varied backgrounds.
Want to volunteer to share your story? Complete the application below. The West Bloomfield Library is a Publishing Partner with the Human Library organization in Denmark. The Human Library organization requires all participating Books to sign an agreement and participate in several hours of on-demand training ahead of the event to ensure everyone feels safe and prepared. Volunteers will be asked to come early and leave late (11 AM – 4:30 PM). Your participation is voluntary.
Want to attend as a Reader? No registration is required to attend this event and hear stories from volunteer Books. Click here to learn how this event works for Readers.
This application will be available until we reach our target number of volunteers or until Sunday, September 8, 2024. We will contact you within a few weeks to talk more about this event and answer any questions you may have. Questions or concerns can be directed to Victoria Edwards at [email protected] and Chelsie Grady at [email protected].
